**Srinagar, February 8, 2025** – Iltija Mufti, daughter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, reported on social media Saturday that she and her mother have been placed under house arrest. The two were reportedly prevented from visiting families of victims of recent incidents.
Iltija Mufti stated that she intended to visit Kathua to offer condolences to the family of Makhan Din, while her mother planned to visit Sopore to console the family of Waseem Mir, a truck driver killed by army fire on Wednesday. She alleges their gates were locked to prevent these visits.
Ms. Mufti criticized the action, stating that comforting victims’ families is now being criminalized and that nothing has changed in Kashmir even after recent elections. The incident has raised concerns about restrictions on political activity and freedom of movement in the region.
