Sat Feb 08 01:30:37 UTC 2025: ## NEET-UG Exam Scheduled for May 4th Amidst Ongoing Investigations

**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced today that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG, India’s largest medical entrance exam, will be held on May 4th. Applications opened today and will close on March 7th. Last year, a record 24 lakh candidates sat for the exam, vying for approximately 108,000 MBBS seats (56,000 in government colleges and 52,000 in private institutions). NEET scores are also used for admissions to undergraduate programs in dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.

The NTA confirmed that the exam will remain a pen-and-paper test, following discussions between the Education and Health Ministries. This decision comes after a turbulent year for the NTA, marked by allegations of irregularities in both NEET and the PhD entrance exam, NET.

Following these allegations, which included paper leaks and subsequent litigation in the case of NEET, the government established a high-level panel led by former ISRO chief R. Radhakrishnan. The panel is exploring the possibility of a multi-stage NEET-UG testing process. The CBI is currently investigating the alleged irregularities in both NEET and NET, with the latter resulting in the exam’s cancellation due to compromised integrity.
