Fri Feb 07 21:20:00 UTC 2025: ## NEET-UG Exam Scheduled for May 4th Amidst Ongoing Investigations
**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced Friday that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG, India’s largest medical entrance exam, will be held on May 4th. The application process opened Friday and will close March 7th. Last year, a record 24 lakh candidates sat for the exam, vying for approximately 108,000 MBBS seats (56,000 government, 52,000 private), along with seats in other medical undergraduate programs like Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.
The NTA confirmed that the exam will remain a pen-and-paper test, following deliberations between the Education and Health Ministries. This decision comes in the wake of recent controversies surrounding alleged irregularities in NEET and other NTA-administered exams, including the PhD entrance NET. Following accusations of irregularities, including paper leaks, and subsequent litigation, a high-level panel headed by former ISRO chief R. Radhakrishnan recommended exploring multi-stage testing for NEET-UG as a potential solution for future exams. The CBI is currently investigating the alleged irregularities in both NEET and UGC-NET, the latter of which was cancelled due to concerns about compromised integrity.
