**Bengaluru, February 8, 2025** – Abhyaas Theatre, a Mumbai-based theatre company, will present a new production of Girish Karnad’s acclaimed play, *Agni Aur Barkha* (*The Fire and the Rain*), at Ranga Shankara in J.P. Nagar on February 11th at 7:30 p.m.
Director Abhinav Grover’s adaptation of Karnad’s 1994 Kannada play (*Agni mattu Male*) reimagines the Mahabharata myth of Yavakri, focusing on the burning of the Khandava forest. The synopsis describes the play as a complex exploration of contemporary social, cultural, political, and psychological issues through a retelling of this lesser-known Mahabharata episode. Grover, who previously staged the play in Kannada, chose to remount it in Hindi with professional actors, aiming for a production with broad appeal and a focus on the inherent man-woman conflict within the text.
While acknowledging numerous previous productions, Grover emphasizes the play’s enduring relevance. He highlights a minimalist approach, allowing the actors’ performances to bring a fresh perspective to this classic work for audiences familiar with various interpretations.
