Fri Feb 07 16:06:56 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Official Calls for Awareness Programs to Aid Nomadic Communities
**Dharwad, Karnataka – February 7, 2025** – G. Pallavi, Chairperson of the Karnataka Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities Development Corporation, has highlighted the need for increased awareness programs to ensure nomadic communities benefit from government welfare schemes. Despite numerous initiatives aimed at economic, social, and educational development, many members remain underserved.
Addressing a review meeting in Dharwad on Friday, Ms. Pallavi noted the existence of various government programs, including direct loan facilities, self-employment schemes, and land ownership schemes for women. She cited 2011 Census data indicating 51 SC nomadic communities, 23 ST nomadic communities, and 25 tribal nomadic communities. District-level committees, each headed by a Deputy Commissioner and including a member from a nomadic community, have been established to monitor program implementation.
Ms. Pallavi emphasized the government’s commitment to providing funds for residential layouts for homeless community members, urging the district administration to conduct a joint survey with the Social Welfare Department within 15 days to identify suitable land. During a visit to Siddeshwar Nagar, she heard grievances from residents and directed officials to allocate survey no. 533 of Hebballi village for landless nomadic community members, promising to facilitate the provision of residential plots.
