Sat Feb 08 11:04:45 UTC 2025: ## BJP Wins Uttar Pradesh Bypoll in Landslide Victory, DMK Leads in Tamil Nadu
**LUCKNOW/ERODE, INDIA** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Milkipur assembly by-election in Uttar Pradesh, defeating the Samajwadi Party (SP) by a massive margin of over 61,000 votes. BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan garnered 1,46,397 votes, a significant win that the party views as a redemption after its surprising loss in the Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency earlier this year. The Milkipur bypoll was considered crucial for the BJP, as Milkipur is a key segment within Faizabad, a region of immense political and religious significance.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrated the win, attributing it to the BJP’s development agenda and good governance. However, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of electoral malpractice, dismissing the victory as “false.”
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the Erode (East) by-election is underway, with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) maintaining a strong lead. DMK candidate V.C. Chandhirakumar is ahead of Naam Tamilar Katchi’s M.K. Seethalakshmi, with the DMK aiming to consolidate its power ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections. The AIADMK and BJP boycotted this election.
Both bypolls witnessed tight security measures during the counting process. The Milkipur count was marked by celebrations from BJP supporters and accusations of electoral misconduct from the SP. The Erode East count is ongoing.
