Sat Feb 08 07:00:11 UTC 2025: ## Mild Tremor Shakes Kasaragod, Kerala; No Casualties Reported

**Kasaragod, Kerala, February 8, 2025** – A mild tremor rattled parts of Kasaragod district in Kerala early Saturday morning, causing a brief period of panic among residents. The tremor, accompanied by an unusual sound, was felt around 1:35 AM in several villages across Vellarikund and Hosdurg taluks. Affected areas included Kottamandal, Odayamchap, Balal, Birikulam, and Kottodi in Vellarikund, and Madikkai and surrounding areas in Hosdurg.

Tehsildar P.V. Murali reported that the tremor was felt throughout the Vellarikund taluk, but thankfully, no injuries or property damage have been reported. He noted that similar tremors occurred two years ago, prompting a request for a geological study of the region. Due to the tremor’s mild nature, it was not registered on the Richter scale.

Sekhar Kuriakose, member secretary of the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, addressed concerns about a potential tsunami. While acknowledging mild earthquake activity at the Carlsberg Ridge in the western Indian Ocean, he confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to the Indian Ocean region and no warnings have been issued.
