Sat Feb 08 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Kendrick Lamar to Headline Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show with Unique Blend of LA Hip-Hop and Storytelling
**NEW ORLEANS, LA (AP)** — Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar will bring his signature Los Angeles hip-hop style to the Super Bowl LIX halftime show this Sunday, promising a performance that blends his signature storytelling with the energy of New Orleans.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, Lamar stated his intention to infuse his LA energy into his performance, describing it as “being in the now” and reflecting his ongoing artistic journey. He emphasized the importance of storytelling in his music, promising a show that stays true to this core element.
This marks a significant moment for hip-hop, as Lamar becomes the first solo hip-hop artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show. He previously appeared as a guest performer in 2022’s star-studded show. Lamar sees this as a chance to highlight the art form’s importance and cultural impact, saying it “puts the culture at the forefront.”
Lamar’s performance will feature fellow artist SZA, though specific details about the show remain under wraps, in keeping with the tradition of surprise elements in Super Bowl halftime performances.
The Super Bowl LIX will see the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles compete for the championship title at the Caesars Superdome. The pregame festivities will feature a distinctly Louisiana flair, with Jon Batiste performing the national anthem, Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle singing “America the Beautiful,” and Ledisi performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” All pregame performers are Louisiana natives. The performances will also include sign language interpreters.
Lamar’s Super Bowl performance follows a triumphant night at the Grammy Awards, where he won Song of the Year and Record of the Year for his track “Not Like Us.” He is also preparing for a major tour with SZA, kicking off in April.
