Sat Feb 08 11:29:43 UTC 2025: ## AAP Retains Kalkaji Despite BJP’s Statewide Surge
**New Delhi** – Atishi, Delhi’s Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, secured a victory in the Kalkaji constituency in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes. This win marks AAP’s third consecutive victory in the constituency, despite a significant BJP surge that resulted in a BJP government in Delhi after a 27-year absence.
The Kalkaji seat was fiercely contested, with Atishi facing stiff competition from Bidhuri and Congress’ Alka Lamba. While Atishi’s victory is a notable win for AAP, the overall election saw the BJP sweeping to power, winning a two-thirds majority.
Despite initial leads for Bidhuri, Atishi ultimately secured victory in a hard-fought battle that she described as a fight between “good and evil, work and hooliganism.” She thanked the people of Kalkaji and vowed to continue the “war” against the BJP.
The election saw a 54.59% voter turnout, a decrease from the 2020 elections. The BJP’s strong showing is attributed by some to a perceived anti-incumbency sentiment against the AAP government and the controversies surrounding it.
While AAP celebrated Atishi’s win, the party conceded defeat in the overall election, with AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal congratulating the BJP on their victory. The BJP celebrated their landslide victory, with many attributing the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Congress, meanwhile, failed to secure a single seat, with their candidate Alka Lamba suffering a significant defeat in Kalkaji.
