**New Delhi, February 7** – A political firestorm erupted in Delhi today as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to poach its candidates ahead of the Delhi Assembly election results. Following a complaint by the BJP deeming the allegations defamatory, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that 16 AAP candidates received offers of ministerial positions and ₹15 crore each in exchange for switching parties. He linked these alleged attempts to exit polls predicting a significant BJP victory, suggesting they were a tactic to demoralize AAP and encourage defections. Atishi, AAP candidate from Kalkaji, echoed these sentiments, questioning the need for such tactics if the BJP was so confident of winning.
The ACB has already begun its investigation, questioning Kejriwal at his residence. AAP leader Sanjay Singh criticized the ACB’s actions, suggesting the investigation was merely a show. The BJP maintains that AAP’s claims are baseless.
The investigation will examine the veracity of AAP’s allegations before the election results are announced on February 8th. The outcome of this investigation and the election itself will significantly impact the political landscape of Delhi.
