**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved its order on a plea by Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, seeking custody parole to attend the ongoing Parliament session. Rashid, currently jailed in Tihar on terror funding charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has been imprisoned since 2019.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), opposing the plea, argued that Rashid has no inherent right to attend Parliament. His counsel countered, emphasizing the lack of representation for his large constituency in Jammu and Kashmir and urging the court not to stifle the voice of his constituents.
Rashid’s petition highlights a procedural impasse. After his election to the Lok Sabha last year, his bail application remained unresolved in the NIA court, leaving him without recourse. He therefore sought interim relief in the form of custody parole. The High Court’s decision is pending.
