Sat Feb 08 10:39:58 UTC 2025: ## BJP Wins Patparganj Seat in Delhi Assembly Elections; AAP Loses Ground
**New Delhi:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a significant victory in the Patparganj constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections, marking a major upset for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Ravinder Singh Negi of the BJP defeated AAP candidate Awadhesh Ojha, securing 74,060 votes.
The Patparganj seat held particular significance as it was previously represented by AAP’s Manish Sisodia, who contested from Jangpura this time and also lost. This win marks the BJP’s first ever victory in Patparganj, breaking a streak of four consecutive wins by the Congress (1993-2008) followed by three consecutive wins by the AAP (2013-2025).
Negi attributed his win to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and stated that this victory signifies the BJP’s return to Delhi after 27 years. He vowed to address long-standing issues such as inadequate sewage systems and the drug problem in slums.
Ojha, a newcomer to politics, conceded defeat gracefully, expressing satisfaction with his performance and attributing the BJP’s win to the public’s desire for change. He indicated his intention to continue his political career.
The counting of votes for all 70 Delhi Assembly seats took place on Saturday under tight security, with over 5,000 personnel deployed for the process. The Chief Electoral Officer, Ms. Ellis Vaj, oversaw the operation, which began with the counting of postal ballots before moving to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
