Sat Feb 08 10:40:22 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Election Results Expected Saturday: BJP Poised for Victory, Exit Polls Suggest

**New Delhi** – The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections will begin at 8 am on Saturday, determining the fate of 698 candidates and the future of the national capital’s governance. Nearly 9.5 million votes were cast across 13,766 polling booths. Security is tight at the 19 counting centers, with mobile phones prohibited.

Exit polls overwhelmingly predict a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), potentially ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) seven-year rule. Most polls forecast a BJP majority or near-majority in the 70-seat assembly, a dramatic turnaround from their 8 seats in 2020. The AAP, which won 62 seats in 2020, is predicted to win anywhere between 11 and 30 seats, according to the exit polls. The Congress is expected to win few, if any, seats.

The BJP’s potential win would mark a major comeback after two consecutive defeats in Delhi and would build on their recent successes in the 2024 general elections and Maharashtra assembly elections. BJP Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva expressed confidence in a resounding victory, attributing it to public desire for change and a corruption-free government.

Conversely, a BJP victory would represent a significant setback for the AAP, which has faced increasing accusations of corruption. The party, once considered a national contender, would likely retain control only of Punjab.

The Delhi elections were hard-fought, focusing on issues of welfare, corruption, infrastructure, and crime. The outcome hinges on the preferences of women, the poor, marginalized castes, and the middle class, key voter demographics that both parties actively courted. The elections also conclude a tumultuous five years marked by acrimony between the state government and the Lieutenant Governor, impacting governance and city services.
