**New Delhi** – Amidst a sweeping BJP victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Minister Atishi secured a crucial win in the Kalkaji constituency. The victory marks a significant achievement for Atishi, who faced a strong challenge from BJP’s former MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba. The BJP is projected to win a commanding majority, currently leading in 47 seats, while AAP is trailing with 23. The Congress party failed to secure any seats.
Atishi, a Rhodes Scholar and Oxford University alumnus, played a pivotal role in AAP’s education reforms before her elevation to Chief Minister following Arvind Kejriwal’s temporary stepping down. Despite the party’s setbacks, including the defeat of Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, Atishi’s win ensures continued AAP presence in the Assembly.
“I thank the people of Kalkaji and party workers,” Atishi stated after her victory, acknowledging the challenges posed by the BJP’s campaign. “This is a setback for AAP, but we accept the people’s mandate. We will continue our fight against BJP’s dictatorship and hooliganism.”
Atishi’s victory was considered a tough battle, with the BJP and Congress candidates aiming to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment. Despite limited time for campaigning due to her Chief Ministerial responsibilities, she successfully navigated a complex electoral landscape. Earlier, she had dismissed pre-election polls predicting a BJP win, calling them a conspiracy.
