**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to win a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) seven-year rule. With Election Commission trends showing the BJP ahead in 45 of the 70 seats, prominent anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare attributed the AAP’s downfall to its controversial liquor policy and alleged prioritization of money over selfless public service.
Hazare, a former mentor to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, stated that the policy’s irregularities and subsequent corruption allegations severely damaged the AAP’s image. He emphasized that the party’s focus shifted to financial gain, neglecting its duty to the people, ultimately leading to its defeat. The CBI and Enforcement Directorate are investigating alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi Excise Policy, which was implemented in November 2021 and later scrapped in September 2022 amidst corruption allegations.
The BJP’s projected win marks a significant comeback after more than 26 years out of power in Delhi. While both the BJP and AAP have registered individual wins, the BJP’s strong showing signals a major shift in the city’s political landscape.
