Fri Feb 07 17:55:06 UTC 2025: ## Madurai DVAC Sees Surge in Corruption Complaints
**Madurai, February 7, 2025** – A rise in complaints against bribe-seeking government employees has been reported in Madurai, fueled by growing public awareness and frustration over corruption. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) unit in Madurai has registered 11 cases and made several arrests since January 2024. Arrests have targeted officials from various departments, including Survey, Registration, Revenue, Water Resources, and Tangedco, as well as a Sub-Inspector of Police who allegedly demanded a bribe from a woman.
A DVAC officer attributed the increase in complaints to instances of excessive bribe demands and harassment by officials. The officer emphasized the importance of maintaining secrecy during the complaint process to ensure successful sting operations. The DVAC’s procedure involves providing tainted currency to the complainant, monitoring the transaction, and arresting the culprit red-handed. Following an arrest, the DVAC works to resolve the underlying issue for the complainant, provided all necessary documentation is in order. The officer noted that those arrested on corruption charges face a high likelihood of conviction and prolonged legal battles.
