Fri Feb 07 19:00:26 UTC 2025: ## BJP Opposes New Hyderabad Landfill, Questions Caste Census Data
**Hyderabad, February 8, 2025** – The BJP in Telangana has launched a strong protest against the government’s plan to establish a new Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) landfill in Sangareddy district. The party claims the proposed landfill, spanning 152 acres of forest land near Patancheru, will cause widespread pollution and environmental damage, mirroring the problems at the existing Jawaharnagar landfill.
Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao stated that hundreds of garbage trucks are already dumping waste at the site, despite public opposition. He accused the police of detaining BJP protestors and demanded the release of those arrested. Rao urged the government to allocate the land for afforestation and explore advanced waste disposal technologies instead of dumping waste in rural areas. He threatened further protests if the project isn’t scrapped.
In a separate development, BJP leaders questioned the recently released caste census data by the Congress government, alleging manipulation to show reduced Backward Classes (BC) numbers and inflated Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) figures. They cited a significant decrease in Telangana’s overall population according to the census, contradicting previous surveys. The BJP accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of using the “unscientific” survey to undermine the promised 42% quota for BCs in local body elections.
