Sat Feb 08 09:25:37 UTC 2025: **AAP’s Star Recruit Suffers Crushing Defeat in Delhi Elections**

NEW DELHI – Avadh Ojha, a prominent UPSC exam tutor and high-profile recruit for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), suffered a resounding defeat in the Patparganj constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections. Ojha, who replaced senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Ravinder Negi by over 21,000 votes. The BJP secured a massive victory in the elections, sweeping to power with a projected 47 seats, a significant setback for the ruling AAP which is expected to win only 23. Both AAP Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia also lost their respective seats.

Despite the significant loss, Ojha expressed contentment with his second-place finish, attributing the outcome to a potential desire for change among voters. He vowed to contest the 2030 elections. The BJP’s early lead, evident within the first few hours of counting, foreshadowed the AAP’s overall defeat. The Congress party is projected to win no seats.

The election results mark a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, with the BJP poised to reclaim power after a long absence. The AAP’s campaign was hampered by the arrests of Kejriwal and Sisodia on corruption charges, and faced intense scrutiny over allegations of lavish spending on the Chief Minister’s residence. Exit polls, while not always accurate, had predicted a substantial BJP victory.
