Fri Feb 07 19:57:35 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Election Vote Counting Underway Amidst Tight Security

**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections, held on February 5th, commenced at 8 a.m. today across 19 counting centers. Results are expected by this afternoon, determining whether the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), or Congress will govern the national capital.

The election was fiercely contested, with AAP aiming for a fourth consecutive term, BJP hoping for their first win in nearly three decades, and Congress seeking a resurgence after consecutive defeats. Exit polls favored the BJP, but AAP, currently in power, expressed confidence in securing over 50 seats, dismissing the polls as attempts to exert psychological pressure and alleging the BJP’s “Operation Lotus” aimed to induce defections.

Approximately 5,000 personnel are overseeing the vote count under a three-tier security arrangement involving paramilitary forces. Delhi Police reported over 1,090 cases registered for violations of the model code of conduct, resulting in over 35,000 arrests or detentions. Voter turnout was 60.54%. The 2020 election saw AAP win 62 seats and BJP 8, while the BJP swept all seven Lok Sabha seats in 2024.
