Sat Feb 08 07:05:10 UTC 2025: ## BJP Upends AAP in Delhi Assembly Elections; Kejriwal Loses His Seat

**New Delhi –** In a stunning upset, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) nearly decade-long reign. Initial trends indicate a BJP lead in 48 seats, compared to AAP’s 22. Congress failed to win any seats.

The most significant development is the defeat of AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his New Delhi constituency, a seat he held for three consecutive terms. BJP’s Parvesh Verma emerged victorious.

The election was largely dominated by the ongoing Delhi liquor policy case, which saw both Kejriwal and his deputy, Manish Sisodia, jailed. Despite both AAP and BJP campaigning on promises of improved public schools and healthcare, the BJP’s campaign appears to have resonated more strongly with voters.

Exit polls had predicted a BJP victory, forecasting anywhere from 45 to 55 seats. These predictions have proven largely accurate. The AAP, which had won 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020, suffered significant losses. Congress, which has struggled in recent years, remains shut out.

This marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, ending AAP’s unprecedented dominance and signaling a BJP comeback after nearly three decades. The complete results are expected later today.
