Sat Feb 08 08:11:04 UTC 2025: ## Kejriwal Loses Delhi Seat in Crushing BJP Victory

**New Delhi, India** – In a stunning upset, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost his New Delhi constituency seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the recent Delhi elections. Verma secured victory by a margin of around 1,200 votes, ending Kejriwal’s decade-long reign in the seat. The result is a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is facing a resounding defeat across the board. With the BJP leading in 48 of the 70 assembly seats at the time of writing, the AAP’s prospects for retaining power appear bleak.

The defeat comes as a further setback for Kejriwal after his deputy, Manish Sisodia, conceded defeat in the Jangpura constituency. Analysts attribute the AAP’s rout to a number of factors, including a perceived image crisis surrounding Kejriwal’s alleged involvement in a liquor policy scam, and the party’s failure to address issues such as infrastructure and water shortages in Delhi. Furthermore, a shift in support from women and middle-class voters towards the BJP, possibly influenced by recent tax cuts announced in the Union Budget, is also cited as a crucial factor.

Verma, celebrated as a “giant-slayer,” attributed his win to the public’s trust in the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, envisioning a “double-engine” government in Delhi with the BJP at both the state and central levels. The victory is seen as particularly significant given his father, Sahib Singh Verma, also served as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

While Chief Minister Atishi managed to retain her Kalkaji seat, the overall picture paints a grim reality for the AAP. Kejriwal’s defeat, coupled with the party’s projected loss of power, signifies a potential end to the AAP’s dominance in Delhi. The outcome is also likely to further strain the already fragile alliance between the AAP and the Congress within the INDIA bloc.
