Fri Feb 07 08:51:48 UTC 2025: ## Zomato Rebranding to “Eternal” Sparks Social Media Backlash

**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Zomato, the popular food delivery app, is facing a wave of online criticism following CEO Deepinder Goyal’s announcement to rename the parent company to “Eternal.” The move, revealed on X (formerly Twitter), has been met with widespread disappointment and a flood of memes.

Goyal explained that the internal shift to “Eternal” began two years ago after the acquisition of Blinkit, to differentiate the company from its brand. He claims that with Blinkit’s growth, “Eternal” now accurately reflects the company’s broader scope, encompassing Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure. The name change, however, will only affect the parent company (Zomato Ltd. becoming Eternal Ltd.), leaving the well-known Zomato app and brand intact.

The announcement has been poorly received by many users, with numerous comments expressing confusion and disapproval. Many criticized the change as unnecessary, pointing out the strong brand recognition and positive connotations associated with the name “Zomato.” Concerns were also raised about the difficulty of searching for the app with a new name, and the perceived awkwardness of the word “Eternal” in the context of food delivery.

The name change is still subject to shareholder approval and regulatory clearances from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. While some users suggested streamlining the company’s app offerings under a single “Eternal” super-app, the overwhelmingly negative social media reaction suggests a bumpy road ahead for this rebranding initiative.
