**Sivaganga, February 7, 2025** – A vigilant appraiser at a public sector bank in Manamadurai thwarted a jewellery fraud attempt on Friday, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The accused, Kottaiammal (55), Eswari (45), and Janardanan (32), attempted to pledge 116 grams of imitation gold jewellery as genuine.
The bank manager, Jhansi Rani, reported the incident to police after the appraiser identified the jewellery as fake. Investigations revealed that the trio had previously pledged 401 grams of genuine gold jewellery at the bank, securing a loan of ₹36.37 lakh. All three are now in police custody.
