Fri Feb 07 03:04:44 UTC 2025: ## Visakhapatnam Retains Railway Division, Gains New Zone Headquarters
**VISAKHAPATNAM, February 7, 2025** – The continued presence of the Waltair Railway Division, now renamed Visakhapatnam Division, in Visakhapatnam is being celebrated across North Andhra. The decision, announced by the central government, also confirms the establishment of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone headquarters in the city.
The move has been welcomed by various organizations, trade unions, political parties, and residents who had actively campaigned against the division’s proposed merger with Vijayawada. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) state president and Gajuwaka MLA [Name omitted from original text] attributed the success to the efforts of Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu and Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat.
Former CBI Joint Director V.V. Lakshminarayana highlighted the positive employment implications for North Andhra, a region he said has faced economic hardship for decades. The addition of both the divisional headquarters and the SCoR Zone is expected to generate significant job opportunities.
Senior trade union leader Ch. Gandhi, while praising the central government and the state’s TDP-JSP-BJP alliance government, urged for the swift appointment of a General Manager for SCoR and the immediate operationalization of the new zone. ZRUCC member Kanchumurthi Eswar called the outcome a collective victory for those involved in the long-standing campaign. CPI district secretary M. Pydiraju echoed this sentiment, describing it as a triumph for all who participated in the struggle for the SCoR zone.
