Fri Feb 07 15:07:09 UTC 2025: ## Tiruchi ICDS Launches Malnutrition Combat Program

**Tiruchi, February 7, 2025** – The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in Tiruchi has launched a comprehensive program to combat child malnutrition. The initiative targets children aged 0-6 years and pregnant and lactating mothers.

The program includes the distribution of nutritional kits, regular health check-ups, immunization, referral services for severe cases, and the promotion of breastfeeding. These services are being delivered through 1,850 anganwadi centers, catering to approximately 1.65 lakh children in the district.

Initial assessments have identified 676 infants (0-6 months) as acutely malnourished and 1,352 as slightly malnourished. These children are receiving nutritional boxes, while their mothers are provided with kits containing items such as mother’s health mix and iron and folic acid syrup. Nutritional support is also being extended to expectant mothers.

The ICDS team is actively measuring the height and weight of children aged 6 months to 6 years to identify further cases of malnutrition. Children requiring medical attention will be referred to doctors. The program also focuses on educating mothers about nutrition awareness, including the benefits of millet and breastfeeding. The initiative aims to address severe malnutrition through early intervention and nutritional support.
