**New Delhi, February 7, 2025** – Kia Motors India is facing a USD 155 million tax demand from Indian authorities related to allegedly incorrect declarations on imported components for its Carnival model. Industry sources indicate the notice accuses Kia of wrongly declaring imports.
Kia India, in a statement, denied any wrongdoing, asserting its commitment to regulatory compliance and full transparency. The company stated it has submitted a detailed response with supporting evidence to the authorities and will not comment further while the matter is under review.
This situation comes as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is already challenging an ₹11,000 crore (approximately USD 1.4 billion) show-cause notice for alleged customs duty fraud in a case before the Bombay High Court, scheduled for hearing on February 17. Both cases highlight ongoing scrutiny of import practices within the Indian automotive industry.
