Thu Feb 06 22:40:00 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Attracts ₹4.4 Lakh Crore in Investment at Bengal Global Business Summit

**Kolkata, February 7, 2025** – The Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025 concluded yesterday, generating a record ₹4.40 lakh crore in investment proposals. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the impressive figure, highlighting West Bengal’s position as a leading investment destination.

The two-day summit attracted approximately 5,000 delegates, including 25 ambassadors and 200 foreign delegates from 40 countries. 212 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent were signed across various sectors. Prominent industrialists, such as Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries), Sajjan Jindal (JSW), and Sanjiv Puri (ITC), participated and pledged significant investments.

Reliance Industries proposed ₹50,000 crore in investment by 2030, while JSW Group announced a ₹16,000 crore investment in a 1,600 MW power project. Ambuja Neotia Group and RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group committed to ₹15,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore respectively.

A significant development announced at the summit was ONGC’s oil exploration project in Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas, following the discovery of oil and gas reserves. The state government allocated 15 acres of land at Re 1 to facilitate this project.

Chief Minister Banerjee emphasized the state’s social progress, noting that 1.72 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. She also highlighted government initiatives such as providing cycles to Class IX students and tablets to Class XI students. She further stated that over ₹13 lakh crore in investments from the previous seven BGBS editions have already been implemented. The 2023 summit saw ₹3.76 lakh crore in proposals, demonstrating consistent economic growth. The Chief Minister reiterated her government’s commitment to making West Bengal the “safest and smartest” place to invest.
