Fri Feb 07 03:51:33 UTC 2025: ## England Captain Buttler Laments Missed Opportunities After India’s ODI Win

Nagpur, India – India defeated England by four wickets in the first One Day International (ODI) of their three-match series, thanks to impressive half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. England captain Jos Buttler admitted his team fell short of expectations.

While England made a strong start with the bat, scoring 248 runs, Buttler highlighted the loss of four quick wickets as a critical turning point. He praised the performances of Gill and Iyer, acknowledging their crucial partnership steered India to victory.

“I’m disappointed we couldn’t win the game,” Buttler said after the match. “We had a good start in the powerplay, the openers batted well, but losing four wickets was disappointing. An extra 40-50 runs would have been significant. We didn’t play as well as we’d like. We wanted to put India under pressure and maintain momentum. The bowlers made a good start, getting two wickets for 20 runs. If we could have found a way to take more wickets at that point, the game might have been different.”

Buttler believes that an additional 40-50 runs would have given England a much stronger position in the match. The series continues with the second ODI.
