Fri Feb 07 07:39:07 UTC 2025: ## Ajith’s “Vidaamuyarchi” Earns ₹22 Crore on Day 1, Falls Short of Vijay’s “Leo”
**Chennai, India** – Ajith Kumar’s highly anticipated film, “Vidaamuyarchi,” opened to mixed reviews but strong box office numbers. The film, a remake of the 1997 Hollywood thriller “Breakdown,” grossed an estimated ₹22 crore (approximately $2.6 million USD) across India on its opening day. Tamil Nadu alone contributed ₹21.5 crore, with an additional ₹50 lakh from Telugu-speaking audiences. Occupancy rates were high, reaching a peak of 71.06% during night shows. Interestingly, Trichy and Pondicherry reportedly saw higher viewership than Chennai.
While the numbers are impressive, “Vidaamuyarchi” lagged behind Vijay’s “Leo,” which raked in ₹43 crore (approximately $5.1 million USD) on its opening day in September 2023. This significant difference highlights the continued box office dominance of Vijay.
“Vidaamuyarchi,” directed by Magizh Thirumeni, was filmed entirely in Azerbaijan and features an ensemble cast including Trisha, Arjun, Regina, and Arvind Swami. The film’s release was delayed from its initial January 10th, Pongal festival date.
