**Kolkata, West Bengal –** A West Bengal government employee stabbed four of his colleagues in Kolkata’s Newtown area on Thursday, allegedly after being denied leave, police said. Amit Kumar Sarkar, an employee in the technical education department at Karigari Bhavan, used a knife to attack his coworkers, Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santanu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul.
A shocking video circulating online shows Sarkar walking around with a bloodstained knife, a bag on his back, and another in his hand, openly warning bystanders not to approach. Two of the victims are reportedly in critical condition, while all four were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to police, Sarkar’s outburst stemmed from a dispute over a leave request, the reasons for which are still under investigation. Following the attack, Sarkar attempted to flee but was apprehended by authorities. He has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Police suspect Sarkar may have underlying mental health issues, and a full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons for the leave denial.
