**NEW DELHI** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the results of the Delhi Assembly elections will be declared on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The single-phase election, held on February 5th, saw over 1.5 crore voters participate, deciding the fate of 699 candidates vying for 70 assembly seats.
The counting of votes will begin at 7 am on February 8th, with trends expected to emerge shortly thereafter. Final results are anticipated by 6 pm. Key races include the New Delhi constituency, where AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal faces BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, and Kalkaji, featuring AAP’s Atishi against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba.
The main contenders in the election were the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Indian National Congress. In the 2020 elections, AAP secured a landslide victory with 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won eight and Congress drew a blank.
Exit polls, however, suggest a significant shift in power. A majority predict a BJP victory, with estimates ranging from 45 to 55 seats, representing a substantial loss for the ruling AAP. Congress is projected to win only one seat, further highlighting the party’s struggles.
