Fri Feb 07 15:36:38 UTC 2025: ## BSF to Raise Concerns Over Attacks by Bangladeshi Miscreants During Upcoming Talks

**New Delhi, Feb 7, 2025** – The Border Security Force (BSF) will raise concerns about attacks on its personnel by Bangladeshi miscreants during upcoming Director General-level talks with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) from February 16-20 in Delhi. This is the first such meeting since the change of government in Bangladesh in August 2024, a delay of nearly four months.

While the attacks and the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh are significant issues, a senior government official stated that these are not formally on the agenda. The focus remains on border management issues. In 2024, 69 BSF personnel were injured in attacks, compared to 74 in 2023. A recent incident on February 5th saw a jawan injured during a smuggling attempt in Dakshin Dinajpur.

The BSF also plans to address the BGB’s halting of BSF fence construction, the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals (3,474 apprehended in 2024, 2,330 since August 2024 alone), and the need to refine the coordinated border management plan (CBMP). The BSF notes that 864.48 km of the 4,096.7 km border remains unfenced, with approximately 85 incidents of protests lodged against BGB construction in disputed areas.

The talks follow a recent protest by Bangladesh’s interim government regarding BSF fence construction at five locations along the border. Despite this, the official emphasized the generally amicable relationship and cooperation between the BSF and BGB, acknowledging occasional deviations due to domestic pressures in Bangladesh. The talks will be held between BSF DG Daljit Singh Chawdhary and BGB DG Major-General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
