**NEW DELHI —** Exit polls suggest a dramatic shift in Delhi’s political landscape, predicting a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections after a two-decade absence. According to an NDTV compilation of polls from Today’s Chanakya, Axis My India, and CNX, the BJP is projected to win a comfortable majority, securing between 42 and 61 seats out of 70. This would mark a significant comeback for the party, last in power in 1998.
The updated poll of polls gives the BJP 42 seats, six more than the majority required. Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), currently in power, is projected to win a significantly reduced number of seats, ranging from 10 to 27 across different polls, a sharp decline from their 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020. The Congress party is predicted to win a single seat, at best, continuing its struggles in Delhi.
While several exit polls, including Today’s Chanakya, Axis My India, CNX, People’s Pulse, Poll Diary, and People’s Insights, point towards a BJP victory, the AAP has vehemently rejected the forecasts. AAP leader Sushil Gupta stated that the party has consistently defied similar predictions in previous elections and expressed confidence in another victory. Two polls, WeePreside and Mind Brink, bucked the trend, predicting a win for AAP.
The results of the Delhi Assembly election will be announced on Saturday. The contrasting predictions highlight the inherent uncertainty of exit polls and emphasize the need to await the official results. The lack of a pre-election alliance between the Congress and the AAP, mirroring the situation in Haryana’s recent elections, is seen as a key factor in the projected outcome.
