Thu Feb 06 22:50:00 UTC 2025: **American Tennis Star Alex Michelsen Races from Davis Cup Victory to Dallas Open**
FRISCO, Texas – Alex Michelsen, 20, is wasting no time in transitioning from a triumphant Davis Cup debut to the Dallas Open. Fresh off leading the United States to a 4-0 sweep over Chinese Taipei, where he described his experience as “the best tennis week on tour,” Michelsen is now competing in the ATP 500 event. His Davis Cup win against Wu Tung-Lin (7-6 (4), 6-3) capped off a successful week spent with his fellow American teammates.
Michelsen’s impressive run follows a standout performance at the Australian Open, where he reached the round of 16 after defeating top-20 players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov. To minimize jet lag after his Davis Cup victory, he strategically remained in Melbourne after the tournament.
Now seeded seventh in Dallas, Michelsen faces a challenging first-round match against Cameron Norrie, a former TCU All-American. This will be Michelsen’s first match against a lefty in 2025, a matchup he enters with a 4-4 career record against left-handed opponents.
Despite his recent success, Michelsen acknowledges past shortcomings in prioritizing physical recovery. He admits to a less-than-ideal approach to self-care last year but is committed to prioritizing recovery and injury prevention moving forward. His focus is now firmly on a strong North American swing, targeting success in Dallas, Delray Beach, Indian Wells, and Miami. With 14 Americans in the Dallas Open main draw, including five of the eight seeds, Michelsen is looking to capitalize on home-court advantage and continue his upward trajectory.
