**Dubai, UAE** – International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Irish spinner Aimee Maguire for an illegal bowling action. The suspension, effective immediately, follows an assessment of her bowling action at the Loughborough University testing centre in the UK on January 21st.
Maguire’s action was reported by on-field umpires during Ireland’s first ODI against India in Rajkot on January 10th. In that match, she took 3 wickets for 57 runs in 8 overs. The ICC analysis revealed a violation of the regulations concerning the extension of the elbow.
Under ICC regulations (Rule 6.1), Maguire is prohibited from bowling in international cricket until she modifies her action and is subsequently cleared through testing. The suspension will remain in place until she can demonstrate a legal bowling action.
Maguire, the sister of Ireland opening bowler Jane Maguire, has represented Ireland in 11 ODIs and 9 T20Is, taking a total of 25 wickets. Her best bowling figures are 5/19, achieved in a match against England in 2002.
