**Bidar, Karnataka, February 6, 2025** – A one-day workshop in Bidar highlighted the critical role of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in improving maternal and child health outcomes. Organized by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) in collaboration with the District Health and Family Welfare Department and the Zilla Panchayat, the workshop emphasized the importance of home visits to educate pregnant women and encourage institutional deliveries.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Nirgude, stressed the need to reduce reliance on private hospitals and raise awareness to combat maternal and child mortality. He urged ASHAs to ensure mandatory medical check-ups for pregnant women and promote government hospital deliveries.
Dr. Syed Sameer, Project Engineer at KSCST, reiterated that good health is a fundamental right and encouraged ASHAs to utilize the knowledge gained to improve public health awareness. Several experts, including Dr. Sangeeta Hallbande, Dr. Jagannath V. Goudge, and Dr. Mohammad Suhail Hussain, delivered lectures on various health-related topics.
The ASHAs participating in the workshop expressed gratitude for the training and requested more such programs in the future. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to improving community health in the Bidar district.
