Wed Feb 05 08:55:05 UTC 2025: ## 250+ Fall Ill After Village Fair in Western Maharashtra

**KOLHAPUR, MAHARASHTRA –** Over 250 people have fallen ill after attending a village fair in Kolhapur district, western Maharashtra, with suspected food poisoning the leading cause. Police confirmed the incident on Wednesday, reporting that approximately 50 individuals remain hospitalized at Shirol hospital, though all are reported to be in stable condition.

The incident followed a fair held Tuesday in Shivnakwadi village, where “kheer,” a milk-based sweet dish, was served as prasad (religious offering). Many of those affected reported symptoms including diarrhea, nausea, and fever, beginning Wednesday morning. While most attribute their illness to the kheer, the police official noted the presence of other food stalls at the fair.

Food samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis to confirm the cause of the illness. The investigation is ongoing.
