Wed Feb 05 21:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Ohio State Promotes Hartline to Offensive Coordinator
**COLUMBUS, OH** – Ohio State University has announced the promotion of Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator, keeping the position in-house following the departure of Chip Kelly to the Las Vegas Raiders. Hartline, a former Buckeye wide receiver and eight-year coaching veteran at OSU, previously served as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. While he held the offensive coordinator title in 2023, head coach Ryan Day retained play-calling duties. This appointment follows Day’s decision to relinquish play-calling responsibilities after the Buckeyes’ 11-2 season.
The move comes on the heels of significant changes to Ohio State’s coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles departed for Penn State, and the Buckeyes will also need to replace several key offensive players, including quarterback Will Howard, running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. However, the team welcomes back star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and five-star quarterback recruit Julian Sayin, and has added running back CJ Donaldson via the transfer portal. The Buckeyes have also reportedly hired Tyler Bowen, formerly of Virginia Tech, as their new offensive line coach. The 2025 season will mark a fresh start for the Buckeyes’ coaching staff and offensive lineup.
