**Lisbon, Portugal** – Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini has been named the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, succeeding his father, the late Aga Khan IV, who passed away on Tuesday at age 88 in Lisbon. The appointment was announced by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) following the unsealing of Prince Karim Aga Khan’s will.

Prince Rahim, the eldest son of the late Aga Khan and Begum Salimah Aga Khan, will now lead the estimated 15 million Ismaili Muslims worldwide. A prominent figure within the AKDN, he has served on numerous boards and currently chairs the network’s Environment and Climate Committee, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation.

The late Aga Khan IV, who inherited the Imamat in 1957, was renowned for his philanthropy, building a vast network of hospitals, schools, and cultural projects, primarily in developing countries. He also amassed considerable wealth through diverse business ventures, including hotels, telecommunications, and thoroughbred horse racing.

A funeral for the late Aga Khan will be held in Lisbon in the coming days. Prince Rahim, who is married to Kendra Spears and has two sons, is expected to continue his father’s legacy of leadership and humanitarian work.
