Thu Feb 06 06:10:51 UTC 2025: ## Malaysia Condemns Trump’s Gaza Redevelopment Plan, Citing Potential Ethnic Cleansing

**Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia** – Malaysia has strongly condemned a proposed US plan to redevelop Gaza, voicing staunch opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinian residents. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Thursday declaring that such actions would constitute ethnic cleansing and a violation of international law.

The statement followed remarks by former US President Donald Trump suggesting Washington would take over the Gaza Strip and oversee its redevelopment. While subsequent statements from Trump administration officials appeared to walk back the idea of permanent resettlement, Malaysia remains steadfast in its condemnation.

Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan reiterated the government’s position in parliament, calling the proposed resettlement “deeply regrettable” and emphasizing that the Palestinian people have a right to remain in their homeland. He underscored Malaysia’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Malaysia, a long-time supporter of the Palestinian cause, has consistently opposed Israeli actions in Gaza. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has actively supported Palestine at the international level, including backing South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. The Malaysian government has also refused to bow to Western pressure to sever ties with Hamas.

The Malaysian government’s statement calls for a united international effort to find a credible and permanent solution acceptable to the Palestinians, emphasizing that any imposed solution disregarding Palestinian self-determination is unacceptable. The proposed plan has been widely criticized internationally and rejected by Palestinian organizations.
