**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Conflicting exit polls have emerged following the Delhi Assembly elections, with most predicting a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a 27-year absence from power, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) maintains confidence in its own victory.
Most exit polls suggest a BJP win with over 40 seats, leaving AAP with under 30 and Congress below 3. However, some polls offer a starkly different picture, with one predicting a comfortable AAP majority (46-52 seats). This discrepancy has sparked heated debate amongst party leaders.
BJP leaders expressed optimism, citing positive public reactions and predicting even better results than the exit polls. AAP, however, dismissed the majority of the polls, citing past inaccuracies. They pointed to instances where exit polls significantly underestimated their previous victories, particularly in 2015 and 2020. AAP leaders emphasized their consistent ability to win with a clear majority and urged voters to wait for the official results on February 8th. Congress also expressed disappointment, believing exit polls underestimated their support.
Adding to the post-election tension, a scuffle broke out between AAP and BJP workers in Sangam Vihar, with both sides accusing the other of initiating the violence. Delhi Police reported receiving no complaints as of yet.
The high voter turnout of 60.42% highlights the significance of these elections. The results will heavily depend on how different voter segments, particularly the middle class and Muslim community, cast their votes. Increased competition for the Muslim vote, with a significant rise in Muslim candidates from various parties, presents a new challenge for the AAP.
The official results will be declared on February 8th, ending the speculation surrounding these highly contested elections.
