Thu Feb 06 03:41:53 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections Conclude with 60.42% Turnout, Exit Polls Predict Close Contest
**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Voting concluded today in the Delhi Assembly elections, with a final voter turnout of 60.42 percent, slightly lower than the 2020 election’s 62.59 percent. The highest turnout was recorded in North-East Delhi (66.25%), while South East Delhi had the lowest (56.16%).
The day saw a flurry of activity, with prominent figures including President Droupadi Murmu, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi among the early voters. Allegations of voter bribery and bogus voting were made by both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), prompting investigations by Delhi Police. While police refuted AAP’s claims of bribery in Jangpura, BJP held protests in Seelampur alleging AAP orchestrated fake voting. Several arrests were made related to alleged attempts at bogus voting.
Conflicting exit poll predictions emerged throughout the day. While some suggested a narrow BJP victory, others predicted a win for the AAP, though consistently underestimating the party’s potential vote share in their projections. AAP rejected the exit poll results citing their historical underestimation of AAP performance. The BJP, however, interpreted the results as a sign of public desire for change, ending their 27-year drought in power. Vote counting will take place on February 8th.
The election saw a high-stakes contest between the incumbent AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, and the BJP, with the Congress aiming for a resurgence after 15 years out of power. The results will be closely watched for their implications for the national political landscape.
