**Ahmedabad, India (February 6, 2025)** – Thirty-three Gujarati immigrants, including women and children, arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning after being deported from the United States for illegal immigration. The group was part of a larger contingent of 104 Indians deported on a U.S. military aircraft that landed in Amritsar on Wednesday.
Upon arrival at Ahmedabad airport, the deportees were immediately transported to their home districts in Gujarat by police vehicles. They declined to comment to the press. The majority hail from Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Patan, Vadodara, and Kheda districts.
Family members of some of the deportees expressed confusion, stating they were unaware of how their relatives had travelled to the US. Former state Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel voiced sympathy, emphasizing the immigrants’ search for employment and urging against labeling them criminals. Police have indicated they will not interrogate the deportees at this time. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of illegal emigration and the complex relationship between India and the US on this issue.
