**Namakkal, February 5, 2025** – A Taluk Surveyor and a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Namakkal were arrested on Tuesday evening for accepting a ₹5,000 bribe. The officials, identified as Ashokkumar and 56-year-old Velusamy, demanded the bribe from P. Thirumurugan (35) in exchange for processing his land subdivision application and issuing a patta (land ownership document).

Thirumurugan, after reporting the bribe demand to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit, cooperated in a sting operation. The VAO was caught red-handed accepting the bribe at 7 p.m. Both officials were subsequently arrested and charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case highlights ongoing corruption concerns within local government land administration.
