HYDERABAD, INDIA – Actor Sumanth has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to star in the 2007 Telugu blockbuster film, “Desamuduru,” a role that eventually catapulted Allu Arjun to further stardom. In a recent interview, Sumanth explained that he rejected the film, directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced by DVV Danayya, because he found the central plot point ethically problematic. The story involved a protagonist falling in love with a woman he meets within a religious context, a situation Sumanth felt uncomfortable portraying.
“Desamuduru,” which also marked Hansika Motwani’s Telugu film debut, went on to become a major box-office success, grossing over 20 crore rupees and garnering popularity for its music and Allu Arjun’s physical transformation for the role.
Sumanth, while having enjoyed some initial success in his career, has since experienced a mixed bag of hits and flops. His last notable success was the 2017 film “Malli Raava.” Currently, he is working on the film “Anaganaga Oka Rowdy.”
