**MUMBAI, INDIA –** The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented its largest-ever budget on Tuesday, totaling over ₹74,000 crore (approximately $9 billion USD) for the 2025-2026 financial year. The budget, described as “citizen-centric,” focuses on six key pillars: fiscal sustainability, infrastructure improvements, education, environmental protection, social initiatives, and administrative efficiency.
A significant highlight of the budget is the proposal for a massive Ferris wheel, dubbed the “Mumbai Eye,” inspired by London’s iconic Eye. While no specific funding has yet been allocated, the BMC plans to develop the project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The proposed attraction, requiring two to three acres of land, will offer stunning panoramic views of the city from climate-controlled capsules. The location remains undetermined, following the MMRDA’s stalled 2022 proposal for Bandra Reclamation, which faced local opposition.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani hailed the budget as a vision for Mumbai’s future, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability, while ensuring citizens receive high-quality civic services at minimal cost. The proposal for the Mumbai Eye, first suggested in 2008, marks a renewed effort to create a landmark attraction for the city.
