**Mumbai, India –** Mumbai is set to gain a new landmark attraction with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) approving the long-delayed Mumbai Eye project in its latest annual budget. The project, envisioned as a massive Ferris wheel offering panoramic views of the city, will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. While the exact location is yet to be finalized, the Mumbai Eye, inspired by London’s iconic Ferris wheel, is expected to become a major tourist draw.
The project, originally proposed by the Shiv Sena in 2008, faced numerous delays. A 2022 proposal to build it at Bandra Reclamation was scrapped due to local opposition. This latest approval marks a significant step towards finally realizing this ambitious plan.
This announcement comes alongside other exciting developments for Mumbai’s tourism sector. The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is set to launch a leopard safari, and the Navi Mumbai T1 Airport is scheduled to open in May 2025. Furthermore, the Maharashtra government has allocated INR 1,213.44 crore for upgrades to ten religious, historical, and tourist sites across the state, including the Aundha Nagnath Temple and Pratapgad Fort. With foreign tourist arrivals to Mumbai placing it second in India in 2024, these developments aim to further boost the city’s appeal as a major tourist destination.
