**Ahmedabad, India –** A 47-year-old man, Kalpesh Gohel, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his 10-year-old son, Om. Police say Gohel administered water laced with sodium nitrite, a poisonous substance, to the child on Tuesday.
According to Bapunagar police, Gohel initially gave his son and 15-year-old daughter, Jiya, medicine to prevent vomiting. He then allegedly gave Om the poisoned water. While Jiya was unaffected, Om began vomiting and turned pale. Gohel, who had reportedly planned to commit suicide after poisoning his children, fled the scene, leaving his phone behind.
Jiya called for an ambulance, but Om was pronounced dead at a private hospital. Gohel was apprehended later and confessed to adding 30 grams of sodium nitrite to the water. He has been charged under section 103 (1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The incident occurred at the family’s residence in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar locality while Gohel’s wife was out. The motive behind the crime remains unclear, police said. Om’s body has been sent for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing.
