**KOZHIKODE, KERALA –** A 56-year-old woman displayed incredible bravery Wednesday, rescuing her husband from a 40-foot well in their home. 64-year-old Ramesan fell into the well while harvesting peppercorns when his ladder slipped.
Hearing the commotion, his wife, Padma, quickly responded. Despite the danger, she descended into the well using a rope, reaching her husband who was submerged in about five feet of water. Padma then held him until the arrival of local residents and the Fire Force Rescue team.
Fire Force official Praful recounted the incident, praising Padma’s quick thinking. Instead of entering the well themselves, the rescue team lowered a net upon Padma’s request. She secured her husband in the net, and he was safely pulled to the surface. Padma then ascended, her hands bruised from her descent.
Ramesan was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Praful lauded Padma’s courageous act, highlighting her bravery in a potentially life-threatening situation. While the rescue team arrived approximately 20 minutes after the initial call, Padma and her husband waited in the well for that duration.
