**Hyderabad, February 5, 2025** – The Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety’s task force uncovered significant hygiene violations at the NALSAR University of Law canteen in Shamirpet during an inspection on February 4th. The inspection resulted in the temporary closure of the canteen.
Officials found that the canteen’s FSSAI license was registered to an incorrect address, and a certified food safety supervisor was absent. Crucial records, including pest control logs and water analysis reports, were missing. Severe sanitation issues were also noted, with rat droppings and cockroach infestations in the storeroom.
Significant quantities of improperly stored food were discovered, including 90 kilograms of unlabeled raw rajma, 20 kilograms of insect-infested muskmelon seeds (which were discarded), and 30 kilograms of green gram lacking packaging details and expiry dates.
Further violations included a lack of insect-proof screens on windows and doors, a slippery kitchen floor, absent temperature records, and raw materials stored directly on the floor without pallets. The details were revealed in a press release from the department. The university is expected to address these issues before the canteen can reopen.
